Old Business
  • Discuss information from the Student Inwill no longer have this stated in our information as it is too long (namiatuno.weebly.com) and will be changing it to (namioncampusuno.org). This will be brought up to NAMI Omaha to assist in payment
  • More Youth Involvement with NAMI Omaha and the Metro Area Suicide Prevention Coalition. They are interested in having more interested youth members and participants in their meetings. If anyone is interested in joining, contact Jennifer.
  • Establish “Save a Life” cards - Vice President will discuss any updates on this.
  • Volunteer Outreach for members at Immanuel Hospital. If anyone is still interested in volunteering for service hours or clinical experience, contact Jennifer at jalquiclra@unomaha.edu
  • Mental Health First Aid Training. If any students are interested in being trained for this training course, please email Jennifer

New Business
New events for this semester
  • Suicide Prevention in Greek Life - A member from the Sigma Lambda Beta fraternity reached out to Jennifer on having an event later this semester. More information will be notified as plans will be made.
  • On-Campus Living and Mental Health Awareness - This is a new event we hope to create as something new for dorm residents and resident assistants on both campuses as outreach. They are a risk population as being independent with new environments, we must also make residents more aware on mental health and suicide prevention.
  • Valentine’s Day Fundraising and Awareness Event - We will plan on having two days in the student center on Feb. 13th (Tuesday) and Feb. 14th (Wednesday) from 12PM to 2PM for us to fundraise and give out incentives to students. It has already been set as tables in that area are booked fast. We will selling baked items on the 13th and on the 14th, pass out self-care cards and self-care mini kits. There will be a prototype kit to show what items will be created and sent out to students beforehand. More information will be released later this month. They notified us that Sigma Lambda Beta will also be doing a bake sale on the 14th and will contact them to see if there is a conflict of us also doing a bake sale on the same day as that was the original plan. If not a problem, we will continue to sell baked goods on the 14th.
  • Outreach to lost members and new interests - Jennifer will be contacting officers from Creighton’s chapter of Active Minds on assistance with student outreach to have more students attend our meetings and events as they have successfully maintained high number of students attending their events and meetings. This may come as a problem as we are a commuter campus and they are not. Commuter campus – some students will stay for class and then leave rather than staying for activities
  • High School Outreach - There is still possibilities for NAMI on Campus to reach into the high schools for the first high school level organization in affiliation with NAMI. More will be developed later this semester with the pilot chapter starting at Omaha South High School.
  • College Outreach - We hope that we will can have other colleges interested in creating more chapters in Nebraska of NAMI on Campus. There was original information a few years of Chadron and Neb. Wesleyan on their interest, but nothing has been said recently. We will reach out to see if there are established chapters.
